WHEN SHOULD I STUDY THE BIBLE?

There are no hard and fast rules as to when to study the bible. However, you may have a simple guide to know when will be the best to study your bible.
I want you to keep in mind that reading the bible is not the same as studying the bible. You can read the bible anywhere anytime as the circumstance permits. You may not be able to do so with studying the word of God because studying the bible requires settling down to dig deep into the scriptures to get the understanding of the word of God. You should read your bible daily. You may however have scheduled time for personal bible study.
A simple Guide to know when to study the bible
1. Study the bible when you can concentrate
You should not schedule your bible study to a time that you may find it difficult to concentrate. For example,
· Your bible study should not be after you had an argument with someone or after you have had a long session of discussion. You may not be in a state of mind and spirit to get the best out of your study time. I suggest that you should just read your bible at this time until your mind calms down enough for you to study the scriptures effectively.
2. Your bible study time should not be when you are tired or fatigued.
3. Don’t fix your bible study time at a time that you are in haste to go somewhere.
· If you do your mind will not be in the study but in where you want to go.
4. Don’t put your study time after you just had a quarrel with someone. Your mind may not be settled.
5. Don’t do your bible study when people are around you disturbing you or making noise
6. Your study time should not be when you are drowsy- feeling sleepy.
7. Study the bible after you have spent some time praying in the Holy Ghost.
· When you pray in the Holy Ghost (in tongues) your spirit becomes sensitive to the Holy Spirit. This prepares your spirit to access the Word of God and see revelations from it. Your spirit will be at a state that it can easily see the deep things of the word of God. Remember there are secret, hidden and deep things of God.
1 Corinthians 2: 10
But God has revealed them to us through his Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him?... NKJV
Deuteronomy 29: 29
The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and our children forever… NKJV
8. Study the bible when nobody is around to disturb you. For example:
Early in the morning,
Late in the evening,
In the middle of the night.
These are periods that nothing will distract your attention. You will be able to concentrate properly at these periods of the day.
9. Study the bible when you are fasting
Fasting subjects our flesh and allows our spirits to be in charge. You will understand the bible better when your flesh is subjected and your spirit is in charge.
10. Have scheduled time to study the bible. It can be done daily if the time permits. It can be three time or more a week (keep in mind, studying the bible is different from reading the bible. You should read your bible daily).
God bless you as you study your Bible.

TIPS ON HOW TO STUDY THE BIBLE EFFECTIVELY

Studying the word of God is one of the most important thing to you as a christian student.2 Timothy 2: 15.
1. Read your bible Daily
Many people struggle with reading their bibles. Some don't have plans to read their bible. They only wish or hope they could daily read it. If you don't make a deliberate effort and decision to read your bible daily you might end up not reading the bible personally in a month or two.
You should not wait for a convenient time before you read your bible. Make it a habit to daily read the bible.
You may do it early in the morning before kicking off with the day's activities. You can also read it after the days work. The important thing is that you should have a plan and a particular time of the day when you read the bible. Don't wait until you feel like reading it.
2. Study the Word of God
When you study the bible you are looking at the word of God carefully. This may include making notes of what you are understanding, running a reference check, checking the meaning of words in a dictionary, looking up the root words in Hebrew and Greek dictionary and comparing scriptures among other things.
I encourage you to do more than reading the bible by moving on into studying the bible. When you study the word of God you dig dip into the bible to get the meaning of what you read and to have a good understanding of it.
2 Timothy 2: 15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needed not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Studying the bible also equips you with facts and truths of the word of God. The more you understand the bible the better a christian you will likely be.
When you are studying your bible, pray that the Lord will open your understand to comprehend it.
Luke 24: 45
And He opened their understanding that they might comprehend the scriptures NKJV
Always ask God for understanding when studying the Word of God because it is possible to read and not understand it. What benefit is what you read that you don't understand
3. Meditate on the Word of God
When you meditate on something you concentrate your mind and thinking on it in order to aid mental or spiritual development. What does the bible say about meditating on the Word of God.
Joshua 1: 8
This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and the you will have good success.NKJV
God is telling us in the scripture above that we should meditate day and night on His word. It is when will meditate on the word of God that the word will get into our lives and make us proper and succeed. The true prosperity and success of a child of God is a product of consistent and continual meditation on the word of God. The word of God that we meditate on transforms our lives. It changes us from who we are to who God wants us to be. It does this by renewing our mind and feeding our spirits.
If you read the bible without meditating in it consistently you will have stuffs of the word of God in your head without it transforming you. It is the word of God that we meditate on that transforms our lives.
So, sit with the word of God and concentrate your thinking on it until it gets to your heart and therby affect your life.

QUESTION
I like our fellowship president. He is such a nice person. Is it OK if I pray that God should give him to me as my husband?
ANSWER
I first thank God for the life of your president. You gave a testimony of him being nice. My dear sister, please get your mind of the president. You are giving in to emotion. You are probably infatuated about him. The president is simply doing his job by being good. Let me ask you a question; if five sisters in your fellowship like your president as you like him should all of you ask God to make him your husband? Don’t pray such a prayer. It is unbiblical. Just allow your president to do his job. Please, you should not device means to attach yourself to him. Just keep following God and at the right time God will give you your own husband. Let me say this again; don’t work your way into his life it could be dangerous for your future and his. God bless you

QUESTION
Please, is it wrong to tell a lie in order to help a friend in a difficult situation?- D.O.S (Uniben)
ANSWER
The first thing you should consider when you have any situation is to determine what the bible says about it. It is very clear from the bible that it is wrong to tell a lie irrespective of the circumstance or situation that surrounds it. The position of the bible will not change because your friend is in a difficult situation. If you really want to help your friend in a godly way then pray for a way out for him and you will be surprised at what God will do. If you tell a lie to help him you will be violating the scripture and I don’t think there is any reason that is good enough to go against the word of God. I pray that God will provide a way out for your friend. God bless you.

QUESTION
I read your magazine and your blog and they are great blessing to me. Please sir,I have problem with masturbation. Anytime I do it I feel so bad yet I keep doing it. I really want to stop it. How can I stop it? – D. A
ANSWER
Masturbation is often a result of lust or addicted sexual imagination. It could also be triggered by a number of other things which could include past sexual experience or pornography. It may also be due to other factors other than the ones I have mentioned. You need to identify what led you into masturbation. In addition, I suggest that you should see a respectable pastor for counseling. It may require that you go through a deliverance ministration as it appears it has become an addiction. Addictions are often results of demonic involvement. Avoid anything pornographic and caution your imaginations from wandering into sexual thoughts.
I pray the Lord will preserve you. God Bless you.
