There are no hard and fast rules as to when to study the bible. However, you may have a simple guide to know when will be the best to study your bible.
I want you to keep in mind that reading the bible is not the same as studying the bible. You can read the bible anywhere anytime as the circumstance permits. You may not be able to do so with studying the word of God because studying the bible requires settling down to dig deep into the scriptures to get the understanding of the word of God. You should read your bible daily. You may however have scheduled time for personal bible study.
A simple Guide to know when to study the bible
1. Study the bible when you can concentrate
You should not schedule your bible study to a time that you may find it difficult to concentrate. For example,
· Your bible study should not be after you had an argument with someone or after you have had a long session of discussion. You may not be in a state of mind and spirit to get the best out of your study time. I suggest that you should just read your bible at this time until your mind calms down enough for you to study the scriptures effectively.
2. Your bible study time should not be when you are tired or fatigued.
3. Don’t fix your bible study time at a time that you are in haste to go somewhere.
· If you do your mind will not be in the study but in where you want to go.
4. Don’t put your study time after you just had a quarrel with someone. Your mind may not be settled.
5. Don’t do your bible study when people are around you disturbing you or making noise
6. Your study time should not be when you are drowsy- feeling sleepy.
7. Study the bible after you have spent some time praying in the Holy Ghost.
· When you pray in the Holy Ghost (in tongues) your spirit becomes sensitive to the Holy Spirit. This prepares your spirit to access the Word of God and see revelations from it. Your spirit will be at a state that it can easily see the deep things of the word of God. Remember there are secret, hidden and deep things of God.
1 Corinthians 2: 10
But God has revealed them to us through his Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him?... NKJV
Deuteronomy 29: 29
The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and our children forever… NKJV
8. Study the bible when nobody is around to disturb you. For example:
Early in the morning,
Late in the evening,
In the middle of the night.
These are periods that nothing will distract your attention. You will be able to concentrate properly at these periods of the day.
9. Study the bible when you are fasting
Fasting subjects our flesh and allows our spirits to be in charge. You will understand the bible better when your flesh is subjected and your spirit is in charge.
10. Have scheduled time to study the bible. It can be done daily if the time permits. It can be three time or more a week (keep in mind, studying the bible is different from reading the bible. You should read your bible daily).
God bless you as you study your Bible.
